Description

Austrian archduke (1832-1867) who ruled as monarch of the Second Mexican Empire; he was overthrown and executed by the restored Republican government, led by Benito Juarez, in 1867. LS in German, signed "Maximilian," five pages on two sets of adjoining sheets, 5 x 8, personal letterhead, February 4, 1866. Letter written from Cuernavaca, Mexico, describing the "paradise of the tropic place in Cuernavaca." This was where he established his country retreat and summer home. In fine condition.
