Superb ALS signed "Sam Houston," one page both sides, 7.5 x 9.75, May 5, 1851. Beautifully penned handwritten letter to Nicholas Dean, regarding the procurement of a housekeeper for his residence in Washington, D.C. In part: "I thank you for the arrangements which you have made for me, in procuring the housekeeper. You will receive a letter enclosed for her, which she will present to the Henleys, on her arrival, and I doubt not but what all things will be rendered agreeable to her. I hope to be at home before she will arrive, but if not Mrs. Houston will be glad to receive and treat her kindly. I am not afraid they will quarrel. I send you enclosed ten dollars, and if more should be needful, let me know it." In fine condition, with small edge splits to folds.
