Description

Civil War-dated partly-printed document for a “Report of a Guard mounted at Camp Hill,” a summit in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, on January 30, 1863, and relieved the next day on January 31, 1863, one page, 10 x 14, which lists a total of 15 privates, three corporals, one sergeant, and one lieutenant. The three reliefs consist of staggered time periods of two hours for groups of five guards, with posts lists as “Head Quarter, Guard House, Stable and Pump.” Remarks by Captain G. Webster read: “All quiet in Camp during the day.” Filled out by Lieutenant William H. Burns, "Co. A 6th Reg’t of Md Vol. Infantry," the document also lists one prisoner by the name of Rittenhouse, whose charge was “Desertion.” Includes a second guard report that is ostensibly also from Camp Hill, although date and place are unlisted. In fine, folded condition, with wear to edges.
