Conkling, president of the Oregon State Society, in full: "Thank you for your kind invitation to attend the reception to be given by the Oregon State Society in honor of Senator Maurine B. Neuberger. I regret that it will be impossible for me to be present because of a heavy schedule, however, I do want to take this opportunity to congratulate the good people of Oregon in their selection of Senator Neuberger. The Senator is a most distinguished and able lady and it has been my pleasure to have known her for a good many years. I wish to extend to her my very best wishes." In fine condition. In 1961, President Kennedy appointed Neuberger to be a member of the Presidential Commission on the Status of Women, a board that included the likes of his brother, Attorney General Robert F.
