French army commander (1758-1795) who was badly wounded during the British capture of St. Lucia during the American Revolution in December 1778; he went on to command the Army of the Moselle during the French Revolutionary Wars, and died of illness while leading the Siege of Luxembourg. His name is one of those inscribed under the Arc de Triomphe. LS in French, signed “Moreaux,” one page both sides, 7.5 x 12.25, Army of the Moselle letterhead, November 19, 1794. Untranslated letter signed by Moreaux as commander of the Army of the Moselle. In fine condition, with a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
