Vintage circa 1957 Old Delft Scanning Stereoscope Model ODSS III, housed in its original 17.25" x 11" x 11.25" oak plywood carrying case, with plate on the front: "Model ODSS III, Scanning Stereoscope, FSN-6650-569-7696, 1 Each, A-4/70, DAAA25-70-D-0014." The Old Delft plaque on the stereoscope is marked "No. 1660." Inside the kit are six leg sections, dual refracting mirror mount with legs and mirror cover plates, and lorgnette-style device. This type of military-grade stereoscope was used by photographic interpreters (for example intelligence analysts) to view 3D stereoscopic images captured by airborne cameras and spy satellites. They also found use in other photogrammetry applications in forestry and agriculture.
