King of Prussia (born 1797) from 1861 and first Emperor of Germany from 1871 until his death in 1888; a member of the House of Hohenzollern, he was the first head of state of a united Germany. Partly-printed DS in German, signed “Wilhelm,” one page, 8.75 x 13.5, January 10, 1871. An official untranslated dimissorial letter surmounted with an engraved Prussian eagle. Signed neatly at the conclusion by Kaiser Wilhelm I, with the lower left bearing a faint embossed seal. Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 13.5 x 18.25. In very good to fine condition, with light overall mottled staining.
