French general and admiral (1729-1794) who led a fleet to aid the American rebels in 1778; though he sympathized with the people during the later French Revolution, he was loyal to the crown and thus executed by guillotine during the Reign of Terror. Manuscript DS in French, signed “Estaing,” eleven pages on sets of adjoining sheets, 8 x 12.5, July 27, 1764. Lengthy untranslated document concerning the police, signed at the bottom of five pages with his initial, "E," and at the conclusion with his surname, "Estaing." In fine condition, with rusty circular paperclip impressions to the edges.
