Important Italian composer (1792-1868) who became one of the seminal figures in the history of opera with such repertoire staples as The Barber of Seville and William Tell. Rare 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait of Rossini seated at his desk by Numa Blanc & Cie of Paris, boldly signed and inscribed on the mount in ink, "Offert a mon jeune ami Ferdinand de Salamanca Ingenieur, G. Rossini, 1862." In fine condition. Rossini is rare in signed photographs, and this example is especially well preserved.
