Description

Founder and editor of the New York Tribune (1811-1872) who used the power of his newspaper to advocate for a variety of liberal causes, most importantly the call for emancipation of slaves during the Civil War. ANS, one page, 7 x 4, October 20, 1850. Handwritten note from New York, addressed to "Draper," in full: "Let Charles Riddle have one hundred dollars, and oblige." In fine condition, with scattered light staining.
