Description

American scientist and druggist (1802-1860) who authored a number of papers published in the American Journal of Science and the American Journal of the Medical Sciences between 1825 and 1832 dealing with pharmacological matters. ALS signed "Geo. W. Carpenter," one page, 7.75 x 10, G. W. Carpenter & Co. Chemical Warehouse letterhead, January 15, 1854. Handwritten letter to Pennsylvania politician Eli Kirk Price, in part: "It has been suggested by a number of persons who are friendly to the consolidation…that an amendment making but one election instead of two would meet with general favor. It would save the city about $50,000 of expenses per annum, which could not be overcome by the only alleged advantage of having the municipal & political election separate. It would not only save the Treasury this large sum, but would save the people a much larger sum in the otherwise cost of time, as well as to give to the municipal election a much larger attendance than if held separate. I have been requested to address you on the subject I hope you will give it consideration." In fine condition.
