American politician (1760-1833) who succeeded Alexander Hamilton as Secretary of the Treasury under Washington and Adams, and went on to serve as governor of Connecticut. Partly-printed DS, signed “Oliv: Wolcott Jr.,” one page, 6.25 x 4.5, September 1, 1788. State of Connecticut Comptroller's Office pay order issued to Treasurer John Lawrence, in part: "Pay James C…One Pound three shill'gs…out of the Taxes…[f]or the Payment of the Civil List, and charge the State." Matted and framed with a portrait (bearing a facsimile signature) to an overall size of 17.25 x 12.5. In fine condition, with a circular cancellation hole to the center.
