DS, one page, 18.5 x 14.5, November 1, 1871. Atlantic and Pacific Railroad Company land grant bond for $1000, payable in gold at six percent, endorsed on the reverse by Ames as a trustee. Also signed on the front by Uriel Crocker as the company's president. In fine condition.
Ames (1807-1877) served as president of Union Pacific Railroad, the 35th governor of Massachusetts, and was a congressman impeached in the Credit Mobilier scandal. Crocker (1796-1887) was head of the Crocker & Brewster publishing house and was heavily involved with several railway enterprises.
