American railroad executive and philanthropist (1821-1885) who was heir to the fortune of his father, Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt. Partly-printed DS, signed “Wm. H. Vanderbilt,” one page, 8.25 x 13.75, April 13, 1867. Document by which stockholders of the Hudson River Rail Road Company agree to purchase shares at a rate of $54 per share. Vanderbilt signs as the fifth entry, purchasing three shares of capital stock. In fine condition. A large, bold, and clean signature of the prominent Vanderbilt, who was considered to be the richest man in America at the time of his death.
