Description

New-York Central Rail-Road Company transfer document, one page, 10.25 x 7.75, November 17, 1862, by which Daniel Drew transfers to Harrison Durkee "50 Shares, of One Hundred Dollars each, of the Capital Stock of The New-York Central Rail-Road Company." Signed at the conclusion by a secretary on Drew's behalf. In fine condition.

Respectfully called ‘Uncle Daniel’ on Wall Street, Daniel Drew (1797-1879) was a noted New York businessman, steamship and railroad developer, and financier who became known, perhaps notorious, for his stock market speculation and manipulation. He’s also popularly credited with introducing what would be called ‘watered stock’ to Wall Street, describing company shares that were issued by false means including counterfeit stock certificates and unauthorized stock release, resulting in a dilution of ownership.
