Description

Partly printed stock transfer document for the New-York and Harlem Rail Road Company, one page, 10.75 x 5.5, which finds John M. Tobin transferring 100 shares to Daniel Drew on May 6, 1864. Signed at the conclusion by Tobin. In fine condition.

Respectfully called ‘Uncle Daniel’ on Wall Street, Daniel Drew (1797-1879) was a noted New York businessman, steamship and railroad developer, and financier who became known, perhaps notorious, for his stock market speculation and manipulation. He’s also popularly credited with introducing what would be called ‘watered stock’ to Wall Street, describing company shares that were issued by false means including counterfeit stock certificates and unauthorized stock release, resulting in a dilution of ownership.
