Description

English social reformer and author (1808-1877) remembered as an influential advocate for women's rights, particularly for her activist campaigns over child custody and the conditions of divorce. Third-person ALS signed four times within the text, "Mrs. Norton," four pages on two adjoining sheets, 3.75 x 6, August 15, [no year]. Handwritten letter from "Prospect House," in part: "Mrs. Norton presents her compliments to the Rev'd M. Fielder and begs to say she has had no cause whatever of dissatisfaction with E. Farey who seems a well disposed youth, & doing his duty as well as can be expected in a house where he has not the advantage of being under a butler. As far as Mrs. Norton is concerned, he might leave at any hour of any day that he is wanted-but on speaking to the lad himself he mentioned that he wanted first to go home, as he had brought very few of his things to his temporary service in Mrs. Norton's house, & also wished to see his friends." In very good to fine condition, with a strip of tape and a rusty circular paperclip impression to the last page.
