Description

French nobleman and soldier (1757-1832) who was wounded in the Battle of Yorktown during the American Revolution, served as deputy to the Estates-General of 1789 before emigrating to Hamburg during the French Revolution, and returned after Napoleon's amnesty to serve in Spain from 1810 to 1814; his name is inscribed under the Arc de Triomphe. ALS in French, signed “Charles de Lameth,” one page, 5 x 8, January 25, 1814. Untranslated handwritten letter on military matters by Lameth, written from the town of Santoña on the north coast of Spain. In fine condition.
