Pennsylvania political boss (1833-1904) once dubbed a 'kingmaker' by President Benjamin Harrison; before his political career, he served in the Union Army and received the Medal of Honor for heroism at the Battle of Fredericksburg. AQS signed "M. S. Quay, 26 March 1892," on an off-white 5 x 8 sheet of U. S. Senate Chamber letterhead. Quay quotes from Proverbs 14:34, in full: "Righteousness exalted a nation." In very good to fine condition, with some minor staining from adhesive to reverse, a few pencil notations, and a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
