American politician (1780-1850) who served as vice president under Martin Van Buren, and was said to have been the soldier who killed the Shawnee chief Tecumseh at the Battle of the Thames. ALS signed “Rch. M. Johnson,” one page, 7.75 x 9.75, January 20, 1821. Handwritten letter to J. L. Edwards written from the "Senate Chamber," in part: "Last winter I had papers sent to me for Pensions in the cases of Mr. Scott & Joseph McConnell—I am again written to on these subjects. Will you be so kind as to give me information as soon as possible…Genl. Metcalf has some agency in these cases." In fine condition.
