Description

French soldier (1768-1797) who rose to be general of the Revolutionary Army, remembered for his victory over Royalist forces in Brittany. LS in French, signed “L. Hoche,” one page, 8 x 8.5, November 16, 1793. Letter containing military orders, in part (translated): "You will assemble your troops at two o'clock in the morning and you will leave at two o'clock in the morning, following the path taken by the vanguard commanded by General Omerweiller…You will not cross the Blisbruck bridge until you are well informed that the first column has indeed arrived." In very good to fine condition, with paper loss to the upper left corner and light soiling.
