Description

Politician and lawyer (1754-1838) of the French Revolution, who served as president of the National Convention in 1794, and of the Directory in 1798 and 1799; he voted for the execution of King Louis XVI. LS in French, signed “Merlin,” one page both sides, 9.75 x 9.25, Republique Francais letterhead, January 19, 1796. Letter to the Minister of War, asking that cavalry be sent to seize the priests in the Departement de l'Yonne. In very good to fine condition, with mounting remnants to the reverse, a biographical caption written below the conclusion in an unknown hand, and a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
