English poet (1714-1763) and one of the earliest practitioners of landscape gardening through the development of his estate, The Leasowes. ALS signed “W. Shenstone,” one page, 4.5 x 7.5, December 25, 1759. Handwritten letter, in part: "My compliments—One Day suits me as much as Another, for I know not that I shall be from Home, on Any. Mr. H. therefore may choose his own. My. Hylton's Br. seems arriv'd at ye very Reach of Perverseness; & his next step surely must be towards ye Valley of Conformity—I think Dolman & He s'd live together in a Monastery, or be joint tenants in an estate, ye they might only plague one another—There is much of ye Baby in them Both."
