Description

Influential English novelist and poet of the Victorian era (1828-1909) whose innovative novels—like The Ordeal of Richard Feverel, The Egoist, and Diana of the Crossways—paid close attention to their characters' psychology and took an interest in social change. ALS, four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, Box Hill letterhead, June 5, 1908. Handwritten letter regarding the publication of his work, in part: "Extracts from my writings having appeared in fourteen Anthologies I resolved that my contributions to them should cease. But these publishers ventures, apparently command success, & now I have had to refuse nearly as many times. It pains me to think of suing so in your case, as I am bound not to make an exception…If you take, saying nothing about it, I need not know." In fine condition, with a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
