British author (1863-1943) best known for his nautical tales and for the much-anthologized story 'The Monkey's Paw,' a famous tale of three wishes that come with horrific consequences for interfering with fate. ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, blindstamped "The Outlook" letterhead, March 23, 1905. Handwritten letter with reference to his short story "Mr. Waddilove's Troubles." In fine condition, with a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
