Description

Commodore (1772-1840) in the United States Navy who served in the Quasi-War, The Barbary Wars and the War of 1812. ALS, four pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.75 x 9.75, July 4, 1834. Handwritten letter to a Brooklyn committee, thanking them for a gift. In part: "I receive from you as a committee of my fellow citizens of Brooklyn and accept with pleasure the pieces of plate which they have had the kindness to present to me as a mark of their regard & esteem and as a testimony of their approval of my conduct during my late command." In very good to fine condition, with a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top and some adhesive remnants along the edge.
