Description

American politician (1769-1828) who served as senator and who, as governor of New York, played a major role in the construction of the Erie Canal. LS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.75 x 12.75, no date but docketed February 20, 1805. Letter to "the Legislature of the State of New York," issued by Clinton as mayor of New York City, regarding "the practice of inspecting Lumber in the City of New York." Clinton complains about "Abuses of the Law on that Subject," focusing on the shortcomings of the inspectors, and offers some solutions for the issue. Signed at the conclusion by Mayor Clinton and countersigned by a clerk. The white paper Seal of New York City affixed at the conclusion remains intact. In very good to fine condition, with some scattered staining and soiling.
