Description

Two items: a FDC with a cachet honoring the gift of a Japanese Peace Bell to the United Nations, signed in English and Japanese in fountain pen, "Mitsuo Fuchida"; and semi-glossy 3.25 x 4.5 head-and-shoulders photo of Minoru Genda, signed in black felt tip, "M. Genda." In overall fine condition.

One of Japan's most skilled fliers, Fuchida (1902-1976) commanded the air attack against Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, and was the last to leave the battle area. After World War II, Fuchida converted to Christianity and became a nondenominational preacher, traveling frequently to America and later becoming a US citizen.

Genda was a Japanese military aviator and politician (1904-1989) who is best known for helping to plan the Pearl Harbor attack; he was also the third chief of staff of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
