(MGM Animation, 1960s) Collection of 11 running animation sequences from an unidentified two-part Tom and Jerry cartoon, which contains an astounding total of 142 original production cels and their original matching drawings, with all measuring 12.5 x 10.5.
The first cartoon consists of six animated sequences (56 total cels and matching drawings), which shows the following: Jerry holding a hot dog bun and successfully catching the hot dog (13 total, numbered 3-15); Jerry wearing a chef hat and moving his arms (12 total, numbered J-2 through J-13; includes the J-1 drawing); Tom looking through a large dripping cake on his head (7 total, numbered T-1 through T-7); a large dripping pink cake (5 total, numbered G-1 through G-5); droplets of pink frosting (15 total, numbered A-1 through A-15); and Jerry’s eyes (4 total, numbered E-1 through E-4, with artists note indicating they are for “J13”). These sequences are housed in their original Format Films, Inc. folder marked as “Prod. No. 7740 003E,” “Title Upside Down Cake,” “Scene No. 3,” with left side annotated, “New cutout in envelope, ‘Stay Tuned.” The folder bears a large affixed flap that reads, “Cut out, SC3 003 7740,” with a matching label below. Includes a MGM Animation / Visual Arts action sheet numbered “3,” for production number “7740,” with footage of “7:00,” and scene synopsis, “003E (Upside Down Cake),” and a group of animation sheets marked “P-1” through P-13” for “003E 7740 SC3,” each marked “Please Stay Tuned for Part Two.”
The second “Part Two” cartoon consists of five animated sequences for a total of 86 cels and matching drawings, all of which are housed in their original Format Films, Inc. folder marked as “7740, 001-E, Sc. 5, Sc. 1 - 5.” The sequences are as follows: Jerry knitting Tom’s fur from the chest up, eventually reaching his head and angering the cat (19 total, numbered 1-J through 19-J); Jerry realizing Tom is mad, dropping his needles, and fleeing off-screen in a blur (13 total, numbered 20-J through 32-J); Tom getting angrier and running off-screen to chase an unseen Jerry (18 total, numbered 1-A through 18-A); Tom’s yellow eyes (3 total, numbered E-14, E-15, E-15A); and Tom, furless from the neck down, initially embarrassed and then becoming enraged and rushing off-screen (33 total, numbered 1 through 33). In overall fine condition, with some light / trivial wear and creases to edges.
