Historic nine-page typescript from Kennedy’s close friend and special assistant Dave Powers chronicling the events of November 22-23, 1963, offering an extraordinary firsthand account of the events surrounding the assassination. Powers was one of John Kennedy's best friends who rode in the Secret Service car right behind President Kennedy's limousine on November 22, 1963, and helped remove President Kennedy’s body from the limousine and onto a stretcher at Parkland Hospital. There have been many accounts of that tragic day in Dallas but none were written by anyone more qualified than Dave Powers: he was not only watching this tragedy unfold but was unfortunately a participant in the events. The clarity and detail of this document is of the utmost historical significance. A highlight is found at the bottom of page three, continuing the entry for 10:15 A.M. on Friday, November 22: "The President talked about the full page, black border paid ad in the Dallas Morning News. He told Ken O'Donnell and me 'it was not a very difficult job to shoot the President.'"
Also includes an original 22-foot long UPI teletype roll with real-time news blurbs from November 22, 1963, including several interesting inaccuracies as competing news services were lax in confirming information before printing. Provenance: Dave Powers Estate, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from John McInnis Auctioneers, which notes that the JFK Library and Museum expressed interest in this lot prior to the auction.
