(Walt Disney Studios, 1940) Original production key master background set-up featuring Geppetto and Figaro from Pinocchio, showing Geppetto sleepily rising with the little kitten sitting at the end of his bed. The cels are trimmed to image and placed on a hand-painted key master background; during this particular scene, with Geppetto exclaiming to his cat, 'C'mon, we go to sleep,' Figaro is actually in his own bed; he was added to this set-up by the studio to be sold at the Courvoisier Gallery. Total character image measures 7.5 x 5.75, with a mat opening of 10.5 x 9. Matted to an overall size of 16.5 x 15. In fine condition. After asking his cat, Figaro, to get out of bed to open the window, Geppetto spots a wishing star. He excitedly declares, 'Star night, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I make tonight.' He then confides in Figaro that he wishes his little Pinocchio to be a real boy, to which Jiminy Cricket retorts, 'A very lovely thought, but not at all practical.' Although this setup was put together later and not seen as is in the film, it is still a beautiful reminder of that memorable scene in which Geppetto wishes upon a star for Pinocchio to become a real boy.
