Description

Crystal-clear oversized portrait of the great Yankees slugger

Beautiful vintage matte-finish 11 x 14 photo of Babe Ruth in a three-quarter-length pose, wearing his New York Yankees uniform and holding for the camera in a post-swing stance, signed and inscribed neatly in fountain, “To a Lovely girl and a sweet one, May Singhi Breen DeRose, Sincerely, Babe Ruth.” In fine condition, with two missing corner tips, two creases to the upper right corner tip, soiling in the borders, a scratch to the upper background area, and subtle evidence of professional removal of two pieces of tape, resulting in a few pinpoint-sized specks of emulsion loss. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity from PSA/DNA. A brilliant portrait of the Great Bambino, accentuated by its bold handwriting and eye-pleasing clarity.

Known as ‘The Original Ukulele Lady,’ May Singhi Breen was an American composer, arranger, and ukulelist (1891-1970) who was a driving force in getting the ukulele accepted as a musical instrument by the American Federation of Musicians. In 2000, she became the first woman inducted into the Ukulele Hall of Fame. Her husband, Peter DeRose, was a composer of jazz and pop music during the era of Tin Pan Alley, who is best remembered for his song ‘Deep Purple.’
