Dutch painter (1824-1911) who was a leading member of the group of landscape painters referred to as the Hague School and, during his lifetime, was deemed 'the most respected Dutch artist of the second half of the nineteenth century.' Rare untranslated ALS in French, one page, 4.25 x 6.25, September 27, 1893. A handwritten letter addressed from the Hague. Nicely double-matted and framed with a color reproduction of Israels' 1972 painting Les Enfants de la Mer (Children of the Sea) to an overall size of 20.5 x 30.5; frame backing bears three Goodspeed's Book Shop labels. In fine condition.
