On an failed experiment aiming to produce "the decomposition of carbonic acid in the leaves of plants by the electric light"

Irish physicist (1820-1893) known for his study of diamagnetism and his realms of infrared radiation and the physical properties of air. ALS, one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, November 14, 1878. Handwritten letter referencing noted physicist James Dewar, in part: "Many years ago I tried to produce the decomposition of carbonic acid in the leaves of plants by the electric light, but the result was not satisfactory… But my colleague, Professor Dewar, Brookside, Cambridge, has worked on the object more recently and if you would apply to him he might be able to give you some information." In fine condition.
