British engineer (1803-1859) who assisted his father, the engineer George Stephenson, with a number of railway-related enterprises. He later served as Chief Engineer of London's first railway, in that capacity constructing a number of bridges and tunnels, and served in Parliament. Autograph document signed "Rob. Stephenson," one page, 7.25 x 4.5, July 12, 1849. Bold handwritten pass for admission to the House of Commons, in full: "Admit the bearer to the Gallery of the House of Commons on the Thursday, 12th of July 49." In fine condition.
