Anson commanded the fleet that defeated the French Admiral de la Jonquière at the First Battle of Cape Finisterre during the War of the Austrian Succession. LS signed “G. Anson,” one page, 7.75 x 12, October 10, 1746. Letter to the Commissioners of the the Victualling, in full: "As the Ships of my Squadron have almost expended their Beer, and as I think Brandy is prejudicial to the men's health, I have sent directions by Captain Legge of the Inverness to Messrs. Allen & Whittenhall your Agents at Oporto to freight a Vessell with one hundred and seventy five Pipes of Wine for the use of the Ships under my Command, and to draw upon you for the value of it." In fine condition, with intersecting folds and scattered staining.
