British Royal Navy officer and polar explorer (1800-1862) known for his explorations of the Arctic, including two expeditions led by his uncle Sir John Ross. ALS signed “Jas. C. Ross,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 7.25, April 27, [no year]. Handwritten letter to the "Lord Bishop," in part: "I am much obliged by your kind note. I cannot positively say yet, but will take care to let you know as soon as I can with certainty…I think it will be Wednesday or Thursday before we leave Woolwich and if we can get the compasses corrected & the ships company paid I should endeavour to sail on Saturday." In fine condition, with a rusty circular paperclip impression to the top.
