Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (born 1777) from 1836 until his death in 1864. Before holding that office, Taney served as secretary of the treasury and attorney general. LS signed “R. B. Taney,” one page, 7.5 x 10, October 11, 1833. Treasury Department letter to James N. Barker, collector at Philadelphia, in part: "The statement of bonds taken in your district for the month of July 1833 has not been received, should it have been transmitted you will please to furnish a duplicate. In very good to fine condition, with multiple intersecting folds, light toning from prior display, trimmed edges, and old tape stains to the perimeter.
