American writer, editor, military surgical assistant, and acclaimed artist (born 1848) who was a fatality of the 1912 sinking of the Titanic. He was one of the most famous men to perish in the disaster. ALS signed “F. D. Millet,” one page, 4.5 x 7, March 10, [no year]. Handwritten letter to an admirer, in part: "I am unable to send you a photograph for I have none but you will find the autograph below. It is a pleasure to learn that anything I have written has given you some entertainment and at the same time it is a great surprise to hear this news from such a distance." In fine condition, with two small file holes to the left edge, and a small rusty paperclip impression to the top edge.
