Description

English mathematician and astronomer (1801-1892) who established Greenwich as the location of the prime meridian. ALS signed “G. B. Airy,” one page, 5 x 8, Royal Observatory Greenwich letterhead, October 23, 1866. Handwritten letter to Walter White, in full: "If the Royal Society's Library contains Bartlett's 'Forty Days in the Desert' would you kindly send it for my perusal?" In fine condition, with light staining to the upper left edge.
