"I hope that you find a copy of my Eclipse paper on your table"

English mathematician and astronomer (1801-1892) who established Greenwich as the location of the prime meridian. ALS signed “G. B. Airy,” one page, 4.25 x 7, August 20, 1845. Handwritten letter from the "Royal Observatory Greenwich," in part: "I had occasion to see Mr. Addington…two days ago, and on my mentioning the Passport he immediately arranged for sending me one. I hope that you find a copy of my Eclipse paper on your table." In fine condition, with light irregular toning.
