Description

The second son (1842-1918) of Lionel Freiherr de Rothschild and Charlotte Freifrau von Rothschild of the Rothschild family; he served as a director of the Bank of England for 20 years, and he represented the British Government at the 1892 International Monetary Conference in Brussels. LS, one page, 4.5 x 7.25, personal monogrammed letterhead, August 7, 1914. Letter to Miss M. Nelson, in full: "I have received your letter announcing the demise of Mrs. Dodds and I beg you to accept for yourself and to convey to the members of your family my very deepest sympathy in this sad occasion. Mrs. Dodds was a lady whom I had known for a great many years and for whom I entertained feelings of the highest respect and regard." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
