French chemist, physicist, and a politician of partly Polish ancestry (1897-1956) who, with her husband, Frédéric Joliot-Curie, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1935 for their discovery of artificial radioactivity. She was the elder daughter of Marie Curie and Pierre Curie. Scarce AQS signed "I. Joliot Curie," written in fountain pen on an off-white 5 x 3.25 sheet, reading: "La science au service de la paise! [Science in the service of peace!]." In fine condition, with a small area of thin paper at the top edge.
