Description

English chemist and physicist (1877-1945) who won the 1922 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery, by means of his mass spectrograph, of isotopes in many non-radioactive elements and for his enunciation of the whole number rule. He was a fellow of the Royal Society and Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. Rare ALS signed “F. W. Aston,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, Trinity College letterhead, October 31, 1934. Handwritten letter to an unidentified woman, in part: "I enclose photograph of myself with my mass-spectrographer with which I have been working since 1925….As this is the only copy I have I should be much obliged if you will return it unimpaired after making the necessary copies." In fine condition.
