Description

Rare signed photo of Hendrix's 1968 Swedish arrest

Vintage glossy 8 x 7.25 photo of Hendrix, with his right hand bandaged, being escorted by Swedish police following his arrest in January 1968, signed in black felt tip, "Love, Jimi Hendrix." The upper "Love" and inscription was done in the hand of Hendrix's tour manager. In very good condition, with trimmed edges and overall creasing.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience landed in Gothenburg on January 3, 1968, to begin a four-show tour of Sweden and Denmark. After they checked into the Hotel Opalen, the band hit the streets, eager for a taste of Swedish nightlife. Their carousing continued upon their return to the hotel, where staff received a complaint at 4 o'clock in the morning. Upon entering the room, the staff found Hendrix bleeding after having punched through a hotel window during a drunken rampage. He was charged with criminal damage and taken to a hospital to receive stitches in his right hand. His court date was set for January 16 and in the meantime he was required to report to the police station every afternoon. Ultimately, Hendrix received just a small fine.
