Wife and biographer (1842-1933) of ill-fated General George Armstrong Custer. ALS, four pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.25 x 7, April 23. Handwritten letter to Miss Halsted, in part: "I was so pressed with the final finishing of my house at Bronxville when your letter came I could not reply. Neither could I find an hour to send for you for I had engagements that brought me to the city where I may be for two months. But I shall be glad to be of any assistance I can to you in the work you propose. My house at Lawrence Park is very attractive I think and unusual somewhat, on account of the situation. It is rented to Mr. & Mrs. John Bates who will show it to you or if I chance to be spending the day there soon perhaps you would like to come out for an afternoon. An artist, Mr. Bowker, has lately taken some photographs of some of the cottages for a prospectus and I feel sure that he would let you have a print taken of mine if you ask him." In fine condition.
