Rare 1776 document signed by a Declaration signer and George Washington's brother

Rare Revolutionary War-dated manuscript DS, signed “Benj. Harrison” and "Chas. Washington," one page both sides, 6 x 7.5, October 16-17, 1776. Ledger page filled with manuscript receipt entries, the second one signed by Harrison and the third signed by Washington. Harrison certifies that he "Rec'd one hundred pounds as a Delegate to Gen'l Congress," and Washington confirms his receipt of "one hundred & four pounds for pay of my Comp'y of Militia called into Duty on Potowmack in July & when call'd to Williamsburg." Other entries on the page relate to payment for militia companies, naval carpenters, and "a gun purchased by Wm. Murray for the public." Professionally inlaid into a larger sheet and in fine condition.

Benjamin Harrison V was a signer of the Declaration of Independence from Virginia (1726-1791) who was the father of President William Henry Harrison and great-grandfather of President Benjamin Harrison. Charles Washington (1738-1799) was the youngest brother of George Washington, a vocal opponent of the Stamp Act of 1765, and involved himself in local Virginia politics.
