TLS signed “Mike,” one page, 8 x 10.5, National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution letterhead, January 6, 1977. Letter to E. J. Ade of the Charles A. Lindbergh Memorial Fund Committee, in full: "I'm pleased to work with anyone the Committee selects but, as I told you on the phone, there has to be one person in charge, not two giving conflicting instructions. One minor error in your letter: there is no 'fine room downstairs' for 450 people. There is a cafeteria upstairs (not elegant) for 300, but I don't think we want that, so it seems to me the balcony is the only reasonable choice. A caterer Mrs. Quesada consulted said that he thought 1,000 people could be seated there, instead of the 600-700 I estimated. Just let me know how it works out. The other items I wanted to mention is the Press Conference on February 4. Since I talked to you on the phone, I checked my calendar and discovered that I'm going to be doing my annual two weeks of Reserve military duty from January 24 to February 6, and hence will not be available. However, I'm sure that with General Doolittle and Neil Armstrong and possibly Mr. Ripley in attendance, there would certainly be no need for me to be there." In fine condition.
