Description

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from Maryland (1741-1811) and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court from 1796 until his death. Revolutionary War-dated LS signed “Sam'l Chase,” one page, 7.25 x 9, 1780. Letter to "His Excellency the Governor & the Council," in part: "I will furnish a proper Vessel well fitted and navigated to carry to New York, with a Flag, 100 or 125 Barrels of Flour, 100 Bushels of Corn…Bacon…Pork…Peas, and 30 ton of Bar Iron for the freight of one fourth of the value of the Cargo in York currency at its arrival in New York…I will bring back a load of Salt, if permitted." In fine condition, with a stain affecting a few words of text.
