Description

Ike votes absentee in NYC: "Business affairs of Columbia University, of which I am President, requires me to be absent"

Partly-printed DS, one page, 7 x 15.5, October 13, 1950. Eisenhower's "Affidavit and Application to the Board of Elections for Absentee Voters' Ballots," partially filled out in his hand with the reason for his absence: "Business affairs of Columbia University, of which I am President, requires me to be absent on a trip to Chicago." In fine condition. The 1950 election saw Democrats lose twenty-eight seats to the Republican Party in the House of Representatives, and five seats in the U.S. Senate, setting the stage for Eisenhower's landslide presidential victory in 1952.
